Istanbul Among Top 10 List of Street Food Cities

With eating becoming an ever more important component of travel, travelers are increasingly looking for some of the world’s most authentic, and least expensive, eats among what are fast becoming the barometers for a country’s “flavor”, the tiny street-side stalls or market halls where hawkers sell their quintensially local street eats.

VirtualTourist.com surveyed its members about their favorite street food experiences, and they rated Istanbul as the 7th top city for its donerlamb, chicken, or beef grilled on a vertical skewer and served in pita bread. There is also simit (ring-shaped bread topped with toasted sesame seeds, Lahmacun (sometimes called Turkish pizza, flatbread topped with minced vegetables and/or ground meat and bold spices,) and midye dolma (stuffed mussels.)
